A food allergy is an abnormal immune response to food. The symptoms of the allergic reaction may range from mild to severe. Fructose malabsorption, formerly named dietary fructose intolerance ( DFI ), is a digestive disorder [1] in which absorption of fructose is impaired by deficient fructose carriers in the small intestine's enterocytes. This results in an increased concentration of fructose. Intolerance to fructose was first identified and reported in 1956.
Because histamine intolerance symptoms can mimic those seen in other conditions such as food allergies or intolerance to sulfites and biogenic amines such as tyramine, there is often confusion in differentiating the causal agent responsible for adverse reactions.
